What is RBAC?
Role Based Access Control is the most widely used access control model in enterprise environments, organizing access permissions around job roles rather than individual users. Instead of assigning permissions to each person individually, administrators define roles such as Finance Analyst, IT Administrator, or HR Manager and attach appropriate permissions to those roles. Users are then assigned to roles that match their job function, automatically inheriting the access rights associated with that role. RBAC simplifies access management significantly in large organizations, makes it easier to onboard new employees and transfer existing ones, and provides a clear foundation for access reviews and compliance reporting. Most modern IAM platforms and cloud environments support RBAC natively.
