What is Passwordless Authentication?
Passwordless Authentication eliminates the most commonly exploited weakness in enterprise security the password and replaces it with authentication methods that are both more secure and more convenient for users. Rather than typing a password that can be phished, guessed, or stolen, users authenticate using their device’s biometric sensor, a hardware security key, a push notification to their mobile app, or a one-time magic link sent to their email. Strong passwordless methods, such as FIDO2 passkeys and hardware security keys, use cryptographic credentials that are bound to the user’s device and are highly resistant to phishing and credential stuffing. Passwordless is now a mainstream option supported by Okta, Microsoft Entra, and FIDO2-compliant devices.
