Entitlement Management

The process of defining, assigning, reviewing, and revoking the specific permissions that users hold across systems and applications.

What is Entitlement Management?

Entitlement Management is the discipline within IAM that governs the fine grained access rights known as entitlements that users accumulate over time as their roles and responsibilities evolve. Left unmanaged, employees often accumulate far more access than they need, a condition known as access sprawl or privilege creep. Entitlement management addresses this by providing tools to catalog all existing entitlements, map them to current business needs, run regular access certification campaigns where managers review and approve the access their teams hold, and automatically remove entitlements that are no longer justified. Platforms like SailPoint are specifically designed to manage entitlements at enterprise scale across hundreds of connected applications.
