What is a Breach?
A breach occurs when an attacker or unauthorized party successfully bypasses an organization’s security controls and gains access to confidential information, systems, or networks. Breaches can result from a wide range of causes including phishing attacks, stolen credentials, unpatched software vulnerabilities, misconfigured cloud storage, or malicious insiders. The consequences of a breach can be severe including financial penalties, regulatory fines, reputational damage, and loss of customer trust. Organizations reduce breach risk through layered security controls including strong IAM, endpoint protection, network monitoring, and regular security assessments.
